Hey Ginger, we’re coming for you!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last several days, you’ve probably noticed Mr. Elon Musk took it upon himself to make sure we get to colonize the little redhead in our galaxy. I have to say: I thought being alive to witness the birth and massive growth of the internet was one of the finest things one could witness, but it seems yet another great achievement will be accomplished during my days here on earth. In 2018 the first unmanned vehicle will launch its way towards Mars followed by a series of launches until the first human beings start colonizing the sum’bitch in 2025. This of course is fantastic news, because this also sets the path for the Galactic Empire and the resistance (us) to arise from the ashes of our exodus. However, before we go, in my opinion it would be a really nice plan to have a plan, once we settle there!

Let’s take a glimpse into the future of space travel and us inhabiting other planets. If we succeed at this not only are we slowly becoming the masters of the universe. We get to do what no human being before us has ever done: We can recreate society!

Side note:
If this is the first time for you reading one of our blogs, first of all a big welcome, but secondly you have to know we are not the biggest fans of the way the world up to this point had turned out to be. More on that over here.

“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” Abraham Lincoln.

Nonetheless, before we can recreate society one first has to have a plan or as Abe so adequately puts it: we have to sharpen the axe! Think about it, what kind of Marslings do we want our future children to be? Of course the first hundreds of years we have to do everything we can to make Mars as habitable as possible, but when we succeed (and I believe we will) what is going to happen next? Are we going to build Franchises we have here on earth? Are we going to indoctrinate the Marslings with the thought ‘life on earth is great’ and they have to take an example from us? Or will we do what I hope we one day can: Let go of the idea that the most important thing in life is to make and spend money! Work 49 weeks in the year to enjoy 3 weeks of freedom spent elsewhere in the world?

This is probably wishful thinking and I’m not saying I have the solution at hand to make everything better, but imposing our way of life onto a new planet and civilization is in my opinion giving in to capitalism, and then I’m glad that I’m not going to be there to witness it!

You are free to think about Elon Musk what you will, but he is in my eyes currently the right man to do the job and I trust him more than any government. This might sound hypocrite, because Musk has his wealth to thank to capitalism, but I’d like to think he has a bigger plan. For example: he could’ve made more money if he had patented Tesla’s technology but he didn’t do that. His vision is that we have to work together to make our lives better and if someone can improve what he has made, they’re free to do just that! That’s a beautiful thought to leave to our fellow humans on Mars. “Listen Marslings: this is the way we live on earth, but if you think you can improve it, you’re free to do so!”

Come what may, it’s within our future to inhabit other planets and to grow as human beings. I don’t always agree with the way things tend to happen, but I’m really glad to be alive to witness and be part of this growth. I just hope this growing interest in space travel is contagious and we’ll start looking up at the stars a little more to understand how insanely little our impact is. My advice to you all is: enjoy, dream, fantasize, be creative and please question everything around you every once in a while. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but it most certainly won’t happen if we join the herd.

Intergalactically yours,
