(Virtual) Reality

What a time to be alive. We are standing at the brink of a revolution in modern-day technology. Virtual reality is becoming more and more popular with both gamers and game-developers. Sure, if you want to get in on some virtual reality action you’re gonna have to put down some cash and even then, you’ll probably discover all that money might have been a little much considering you’re not able to do much with your hardware.

Even though game developers don’t offer a lot of amazing virtual reality games yet, they definitely deserve an A for effort. They’re the pioneers of virtual reality gaming and without them there wouldn’t be a dream to keep alive.

I’m sure it looks amazing though. It’s exciting and new.
A-Typical unfortunately never got the opportunity to try out wonderous VR. Well, we got an oppurtunity but that was at Comic Con where a bunch of other people were testing it out. Sweaty people with greasy hair and god knows what else. Yeah, I’mma pass, thanks.

We’re seeing more developments though and the tech is getting more advanced. The virtual reality is able to simulate hand movements and body movements and there’s even devices that let you walk around in your virtual world. Oh, and there’s virtual reality adult movies. And we thought we’d seen it all with panda’s.

Below we see a guy trying to lean on a table that doesn’t exist in the real world. So I guess the software is getting more advanced as well.

Virtual reality is doing exactly what it’s supposed to: creating a virtual reality. If the tech we see today can already immerse people so much that they’re getting confused, imagine what we can do in 10 years.

It’s creating a different reality from the one we’re used to. A reality we can escape to when we feel the need to get away from all the hassle of the one we’re physically in. And that’s really what gaming’s all about in the first place. Virtual reality just makes you look like and idiot doing so.

I, personally hope controllers never get replaced with virtual reality apparatuses. I can understand it might be tiring, both physically and mentally. It takes a lot more concentration than regular gaming.

What we can probably expect to see in the coming years is for virtual reality to become a nice little play-thingy like the Eyetoy on Playstation 2 or even the NES Zapper back in the day. Both of which already kind of touched the realm of VR.

Sure, it’s exciting to get a glimpse of the future but for now I’m going to save my money for regular gaming.

Virtually yours,
